Mulhacen Summit, at 3482m Mulhacen is the highest point in mainland Spain, which puts it high on the tick list of many visitors to the area and mountaineers from across Europe. Whilst it can be climbed in a day it is far better to do the summit as a part of a two or three day package bases at the Poqueira mountain refuge which sits at 2,500m on the southern slopes of the mountain. Using the refuge as a base the summit is undertaken via the west ridge a spectacular mountain route with views of the north face of the main summits of the Sierra Nevada range. With two or three days at the refuge clients can also explore the wider area with the possibility of ascents of Veletta ( 3396m), scrambling on Pulpitto (2979m) or a trip across to Siete Lagunas a wonderfully remote mountain valley.
